Culter

Cricketers started it. Members of the Culter Cricket Club in Peterculter, a village on the western edge of Aberdeen, formed a football side in the autumn of 1890, and it was another year before the team played its first matches.

The club is a junior side in the Scottish sense: a non-league level, not an age group. It has spent its life in the North Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA). From 2003–04 to 2006–07 Culter won the Superleague four years running. In 2010–11 and then in 2012–13 and 2013–14, the club won the league title again, until it won it in 2022–23, 2023–24 and 2024–25. The last of those titles arrived in 2022–23.

In the same seasons the club took the North Regional Cup in 2022–23 and 2024–25, and the Jim McPherson Trophy in 2023–24 and 2024–25. It also won that trophy in 2025–26, so a long cup list is still growing. One prize has stayed out of reach: the Scottish Junior Cup. Culter have reached its third round and gone no further.

Hugh Robertson is a name the older supporters bring up. He had played professionally for Aberdeen, Dundee and Ross County before he pulled on a Culter shirt, and later he managed the club as well.

Crombie Park sits on Malcolm Road, in the village that produced the cricketers who began all this.
