Daring Echternach

Daring grew out of that setting in a specific way: from students at the town's teacher training college, who met at Mich Lorenz's establishment on Halergaass on 28 March 1921 to found the club after two earlier local sides, Jeunesse Echternach and Cercle des Sports Echternach, had each folded within a few years of starting up.

The occupation years cut through that continuity. In May 1940 the German administration forced a renaming to FC Wacker Echternach; it took back its own name only on 14 July 1945, once the war had ended. One player who passed through the club before moving on to CA Spora Luxembourg, Lucien Bentz, did not survive the occupation — he was executed by the Gestapo in 1944 and is remembered in the national crypt.

On the pitch, Daring's peak moments sit four decades apart: the Nationaldivision title in 1956–57, and a second championship in 2000–01. Between and around those, the club built a habit of go-between football, dropping to the second tier and climbing straight back — promotions came in 1926, 1934, 1966, 1975, 1982, 2004 and 2018. The one final it reached in the national cup, back when it ran as the Coupe FLF, ended in a 6–2 defeat to Jeunesse Kayl in 1952, and the trophy itself has stayed out of reach ever since.

Mikhail Zaritskiy, capped for the Luxembourg national side, took charge of Daring from 2017 to 2021.
