The 2005 FAI Cup win came first, but Drogheda United had to wait until 2024 to add a second, beating Derry City 2-0 in the final. The title was taken during a run that also brought the Setanta Sports Cup in successive years, 2006 and 2007.

The name on the shirt dates to 1919, but the club now carrying it took shape in 1975, when Drogheda United, a lower-division side, merged with Drogheda F.C., which had been playing in the Premier Division since 1962.

United Park has hosted the team since 1979 and now trades under the name Sullivan & Lambe Park, holding 3,500, with 1,500 of those seated.

Both clubs draw from the same county, and the fixture goes by Louth Derby.
