The road to that final ran through the regional leagues, where Dunbeholden spent years before winning the South Central Confederation Super League in 2017–18 and earning promotion. They took their place in the Jamaica Premier League the following season, and losing the title only on penalties.
Portmore is a club town twice over, and Dunbeholden share it with Portmore United in a fixture known locally as the Portmore Derby. Dunbeholden's own ground, the Dunbeholden Sports Complex, holds 1,500; after their 2018 promotion they had played home matches at the Prison Oval in Spanish Town instead.
