Echallens

Échallens sit in the 1. Liga Classic, the fourth tier, a level they know well after their U-19 side once claimed a Vaud championship back in 1955 and the first team pushed up through the divisions decades later. The 2021–22 season brought their most recent title, winning Group 1 and reaching the promotion playoffs for a place in the Promotion League, only to fall there to FC Tuggen.

The club goes back to July 1921, when it was registered as Central F.C.; the name Échallens arrived seven years later, in 1928. The yellow-and-green stripes, worn over black shorts, were picked to match the colours associated with the town at the time.

Cup football has given the club its biggest afternoons. In 2017 they went out in the Round of 32 to FC Luzern, and the following year they went one round further, hosting FC Basel in the Round of 16 at the Stade des 3 Sapins.

Fixtures against Yverdon-Sport carry the weight of a cantonal derby, while meetings with Lausanne-Sport are known locally as the derby des voisins. Živko Kostadinović came through the club before going on to play for the Swiss national team and clubs including FC Zürich and FC Wil.

For now, the task in front of the club is a familiar one: hold their ground in the 1. Liga Classic and see whether another push toward the Promotion League can go further than the last.
