That year earlier is worth pausing on. The 2021–22 Eerste Divisie title was won outright — no play-off scramble, no last-day arithmetic.

Home is De Oude Meerdijk, open since 1977 and holding 8,600. The name has been rented out and taken back more than once: Univé Stadion from 2001, JENS Vesting from 2014, and then in 2017 the club put the old name back over the door.

The red shirt with the broad white stripe down the middle gave the side its nickname, the Red and Whites, in use since 1985 — the year Emmen finally turned professional and entered the Eerste Divisie. That was a late decision by any measure.

The club began on 21 August 1925 as NEC — Noordbarge Emmen Combinatie — and the name lasted barely any time at all. Too many people were confusing it with NEC of Nijmegen, so it became VV Emmen instead.
