England U20

England's Under-20s do not carry a fixture list or a table position in the way a club side does; the squad is assembled fresh for each cycle, built around the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the Toulon Tournament, and its standing is measured by how far that group travels once the tournament starts. The group operates out of St George's Park in Burton upon Trent, a base with a 4,500-capacity ground rather than a home stadium in the usual sense.

The side traces back to 1977, set up alongside the launch of what was then the FIFA World Youth Championship, and it took only until 1981 for the team to reach a first final stage, finishing fourth. In 2017, in South Korea, England beat Venezuela 1–0 in the final to win the U-20 World Cup outright. Dominic Solanke took the Golden Ball as the tournament's outstanding player.

Aidy Boothroyd was in charge for the 2017 win. Beyond the World Cup, the Toulon Tournament has been the age group's other hunting ground, won seven times, most recently in 2018.

Darren Moore now has the job of shaping the next group. There is no settled rival to build a fixture around at this level — the meaningful games are whichever ones the next World Cup or Toulon draw hands the squad — so the task stays the same each cycle: assemble the best of the age group, get them through qualification, and see how far this version of the side can go.
