Genk Women

Twice in a decade the club stopped being what it had just been. Founded in 1971 as Hewian Girls Lanaken, the side spent its early years under that name before becoming Damesvoetbal Lanaken in 2007, then merging with a Zonhoven outfit in 2013 to form DVL Zonhoven. Two years later the whole operation moved to Genk and took the badge and colours of KRC Genk, emerging as Ladies Genk, now known as KRC Genk Ladies.

Home games are shared between the Turkse Rangers pitch at Sportcomplex Zwartberg and, for the bigger occasions, the Cegeka Arena, which holds just over 23,000. The blue-and-white shirt carries the same crest as the men's side, and the club now competes in the Super League Women, the top flight of Belgian women's football.

The best domestic finish came early, as Hewian Girls Lanaken, when the club won the Second Division in 2000/01. Since the move to Genk it has come close to bigger prizes rather than lifted them: runner-up in the First Division in both 2013/14 and 2014/15, and beaten in the Belgian Women's Cup final twice, first by Standard Liège in 2018 and again, 3-0, in 2023. Matches against KVC Westerlo Ladies and STVV carry extra weight locally, played out as the Limburg derby.

No one wore the shirt longer or to more effect than Lisa Petry, who joined in 2021 and left this year with 83 appearances and 37 goals behind her.
