The Global Football Innovation Academy changed that in 2025, entering USL League Two as an expansion side and putting a senior team on the pitch for the first time. By 2026 it was playing under the name GFI Woodlands.

The team plays at Global Football Innovation Academy Field 2, a ground that holds around 1,000 people.

GFI Woodlands found its footing quickly. In the 2026 season it competed in the Lone Star Division of the Southern Conference and finished second in the regular-season table. No league title has followed yet, and no formal name has attached itself to the rivalry with AC Houston Sur — the fixtures speak for themselves without one.

The academy behind the club has sent players such as Daniela Todd, Alann Torres and Greg Monroe into professional contracts, though that pipeline runs through the academy's younger age groups rather than the USL2 roster itself.
