Laredo Heat

The title that mattered most came in 2007, when Laredo won the USL Premier Development League National Championship. They had already taken the Mid South Division that year, and they finished as national runners-up in 2006 and again in 2008. The division title returned in 2009 and 2010, and the Southern Conference followed in 2008 and 2011. In those years a border-town side drew exhibition matches against Chivas de Guadalajara and the Mexico U-20 national team.

The Heat were not built as a first-team project. Shashi and Priya Vaswani started the club in 2004 to give Laredo's children organised football. Roy Lassiter played in the first season. Armando Begines, who came through in the period of the titles, later played for Chivas USA and Querétaro.

After the 2015 season the club left the Premier Development League for two years. It came back in 2018 in the National Premier Soccer League and won the Lone Star Conference in its first season there. Games had been played at the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex until the club finished its own ground on Bob Bullock Loop. The naming rights went to PEG Energy in March 2023, and the team moved in during 2024, its twentieth year. The rivalry that matters is with FC Brownsville and the other sides of the Rio Grande Valley.

USL League Two, the renamed Premier Development League, took the Heat back in 2025 after a decade away.
