Górnik Konin

Since 2008 the team from Konin has played under the name Górnik again. Before that came a decade as Aluminium, interrupted only in 1999, when the club was briefly KP Konin. An earlier change, to Zagłębie, lasted from 1967 to 1979.

The Aluminium years produced the club's best season. In 1997/98 the side finished second in the II liga, and in the same campaign it reached the Polish Cup final. Amica Wronki won that final.

Players who passed through include the goalkeeper Radosław Cierzniak, who was at the club in 2003–2004. The defender Piotr Czachowski was there in 1997–1998, the cup-final season.

The nickname "Łańcuchy", or The Chains, does not come from anything on the pitch. It refers to the chains that once marked the border between the Prussian and Russian partitions near Strzałków. The other name, "Biało-Niebiescy", is simply the club's white and blue.

The nearest rivalry is with SMS Ślesin, a fixture usually called the "derby regionu". Polonia Golina and Sokół Kleczew are also local opponents. Home games are played at the Stadion im. Złotej Jedenastki Kazimierza Górskiego, which is named after the Golden Eleven of the coach Kazimierz Górski and has 7,871 seats.

The club began on 12 June 1957 as Górnik Konin, the name it now carries again.
