Holzkirchen

When local papers wrote of a "Durchmarsch in die Bayernliga" at Holzkirchen, they meant the ice stock section, which won promotion to that league in 2026. The football team has never played in the Bayernliga. Its ceiling is the Bezirksliga, the sixth tier, which it has reached four times: in 1968, 2002, 2013 and 2018.

Each of those promotions was followed by a return to the lower leagues. The most recent came in 2023/24, when the side finished bottom of the Bezirksliga Nord, took the wooden spoon (the "Rote Laterne") and went down to the Kreisliga Donau Nord, the seventh tier. SV Holzkirchen is a village club from a district of Wechingen in the Donau-Ries area of Bavaria, and it was founded in 1949.

The club's trophies come indoors. It has won the Hallenmasters Donau-Ries, the regional indoor tournament, seven times: three years running from 2000 to 2002, and again in 2012 and then 2016, 2017 and 2018. Nothing has been won in the state or national cups.

The fixture that matters most is the "Riesderby" against TSV Nördlingen, in practice the reserve side, TSV Nördlingen II. TSV Wemding is another neighbour it meets regularly. The Wörnitzstadion holds 1,500, a capacity these games rarely test.

He had played for TSV 1896 Rain, then came to Holzkirchen at the end of his career and retired from playing in 2015.
