SpVgg Unterhaching

In 1999, a club from a suburb of Munich finished second in the 2. Bundesliga and went up to the Bundesliga. Unterhaching, a municipality on the southern edge of the city, spent two seasons in the top flight, 1999–2001. Their stay ended in 2001.

In 1925 the football section of TSV Hachinger Tal left to form its own body. The Nazi regime dissolved it in 1933/1934, and it was re-established in 1945. It came through the regional leagues: the Landesliga Bayern-Süd in 1981, the Bayernliga four times between 1983 and 1992, the Regionalliga Süd in 1995.

Unterhaching is the smaller neighbour of TSV 1860 München, and the Munich derby between them is played on a "city against suburb" footing.

In 2018 the professional department became a GmbH & Co. KGaA, a limited partnership with shares. That made Unterhaching the second German club after Borussia Dortmund to have its shares traded on the stock exchange. The Sportpark holds 15,053, of whom 6,874 sit.

Andreas Brehme, a name known well beyond Bavaria, is among those who have coached the side.
