Ilkeston Town won the Midland Football League Premier Division in its second season, in 2018-19, then went up again three years later by taking the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands title in 2021-22.

Cup football has brought the sterner tests. In 2020-21 Ilkeston Town reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup before Hartlepool United beat them 6-0, and this season they went out of the FA Trophy at the second round stage, losing 0-1 to Curzon Ashton. Belper Town is the other old rival.

A £2m redevelopment around 2020 gave the New Manor Ground a 4G pitch and LED floodlights, with further building plans announced in 2022. The old Ilkeston side once packed 2,538 in for a match against Rushden & Diamonds; under the new club, the biggest crowd has been 400, for an FA Cup tie against Hartlepool United in 2020.
