Interclube

Derby de Luanda draws the biggest crowd Estádio Joaquim Dinis can hold against it, but Interclube's older quarrel runs against 1º de Agosto, the other club in the capital that owns its own ground rather than borrowing one from the state. Interclube built its stadium in 2004 and opened it the following year.

The club grew out of the police force. The Angolan Ministry of the Interior formed it on 28 February 1976 as a recreational side for officers, under the name Grupo Desportivo Recreativo do Corpo da Polícia de Angola, and the tie to law enforcement never loosened enough to drop the nickname it carries now, Os Polícias. Supporters call themselves the Nação Azul, after the blue that runs through the home shirt.

Since working its way into the Girabola in the early 1980s, Interclube has stayed there without a single relegation, a run few clubs in the division can match. The two league titles came four years apart, in 2007 and 2010, and it was Carlos Mozer who delivered the first of them before Álvaro Magalhães took the second and followed it with the 2011 Taça de Angola. That cup has gone to Interclube three times in all, and the Supertaça de Angola four times. Later that same year, 2011, the club reached the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup, the first Angolan side to get that far in the competition.

André Macanga built his international career through the midfield here, going on to earn 72 caps for Angola. Ivo Campos has run the team since 2019, with the Girabola still the target Interclube has not reached again since 2010.
