The roots of this national side stretch back further than modern memories suggest. Italy entered the inaugural edition of the FIFA Youth Tournament Under-18 in 1948, finishing fourth in a field of international contenders. That early participation established a lineage, even as the tournament evolved into the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

Success has come in waves. After the 1966 shared title, the wait continued until 2003. Then, nearly two decades later, Alberto Bollini led the team to glory again in 2023. Between those peaks, the side often fell short, finishing as runners-up on seven occasions, including a final appearance under Paolo Vanoli in 2016.

The players do not play at a single stadium. They travel across Europe for friendlies and qualifiers, never settling into one home ground. When they are not competing abroad, they return to the Centro Tecnico Federale di Coverciano in Florence. This training facility serves as the primary base for all Italian national teams from the U-15 level upwards, a constant presence in their development.
