Kilwinning Rangers

Ardrossan Winton Rovers sit close enough down the road that a fixture against them still carries the weight of a derby, and Kilwinning Rangers have measured themselves against that rivalry for longer than against anything the Scottish game's higher tiers could offer. For most of their existence, higher tiers were not on offer at all: the club spent 118 years in the Junior grade before applying for full membership of the Scottish Football Association, granted in June 2022, which put them into the Scottish Cup for the first time. They lost in the second round that season, to Forfar Athletic.

The Junior status they carried for so long never meant small ambition. In 1908–09 Kilwinning Rangers became the first Ayrshire club to win the Scottish Junior Cup, beating Strathclyde 1–0, and they added a second in 1998–99. Eleven Ayrshire Cups sit alongside those, along with four Western Junior League titles and, in 2003–04, the West of Scotland Super League Premier Division.

The nickname The Buffs has outlived any settled explanation for it — old maps marking the area as "The Butts", a player once attached to the East Kent Regiment, or simply a dull yellow strip the club wore early on. What is certain is Buffs Park, home since 2019 after the move from Abbey Park, holding 2,800.

Founded in 1899 as a juvenile side sharing Blacklands Park with the long-gone Kilwinning Eglinton, the club now runs seventeen youth teams out of Kilwinning.
