Penicuik Athletic

Penicuik Athletic came out of a meeting at the Royal Hotel in the Midlothian town. The date was 1888, which makes the club old enough that its 125th anniversary fell in the 2013/14 season — the same campaign in which it won the East Premier League Championship.

Eastfield Park served as home until the 1980s, when the ground was sold off for a supermarket and the club moved to what is now Montgomery Park on Carlops Road. For a ground holding 2,000, it has an unusual feature: undersoil heating. Penicuik play in blue at home and switch to red on the road.

Two East Region Division One titles either side of 1980 and a Lothians League Division Two championship in 2005 fill out the honours board, but the club's name is remembered in Scottish junior football for one run rather than any league table. In 1970 Penicuik reached the Scottish Junior Cup final, and after a goalless first meeting the replay was staged at Hampden Park in front of 14,225. Blantyre Victoria won it 1-0.
