Pollok

The Scottish Junior Cup came to Pollok three times, in 1981, 1985 and 1997. Its 1945 run to the semi-final of the same competition drew 25,000 people.

The club began as the football section of the Pollokshaws Working Lads Club. Sir John Stirling Maxwell, its first president, gave it Haggs Park. That gift ended in 1927, when the club was made to leave, and in 1928 it moved to Newlandsfield Park. It has stayed there since. The ground holds 2,088, all standing.

The crowds did not come only from the neighbourhood. When Third Lanark went out of existence in 1967, their supporters needed somewhere to go, and a good number of them ended up at Pollok. That is part of why a Junior side could be spoken of as the Southside's local team.

The Junior game itself changed. In 2021 Pollok became an inaugural member of the West of Scotland Football League, and in May 2022 the club joined the Scottish FA. In May 2026 Pollok won promotion to the Lowland League West, at the fifth tier.

Bobby Collins is the name most often attached to the club. He started at Pollok before going on to Celtic, Everton and Leeds United. Tam Hanlon is remembered for a hat-trick of long-range goals in 2016.
