Livorno restarted the 2025/26 season in Serie C. The pattern is old: bankruptcy in 1973, liquidation in 1988 and a rebirth as Pro Livorno, then a third collapse in 1991 that dropped the team into the regional Eccellenza as AS Livorno Calcio.

None of that was the plan on 17 February 1915, when Virtus Juventusque and SPES Livorno merged into Unione Sportiva Livorno. Fourteen years later the club was one of the 18 founder members of the modern Serie A, and its high point came in 1942/43, when it finished second — a placing no Livorno side has approached since.
