Marlow

The Alfred Davis Memorial Ground holds 3,000 people, and only 250 of them have a seat. Marlow arrived there in 1928 after nearly sixty years of moving around: Aldermeadow until 1898, Crown Meadow until 1919, then Star Meadow, a field with no enclosure at all.

The club began at a meeting in The Compleat Angler Hotel in November 1870. A year later it was among the 15 entrants to the first FA Cup, and it has applied to enter every season since, missing only 1910–11. In 1881–82 Marlow reached the semi-final and lost 5–0 to Old Etonians. Cuthbert Ottaway played for the club in that first Cup season and went on to captain England against Scotland in 1872. Sydney Wright, a Marlow captain in the 1870s, refereed the 1877 final.

The Cup came back to the ground in the 1990s. Marlow reached the First Round in 1991–92, and in 1992–93 they went to the Third Round, where Tottenham Hotspur beat them. They reached the Third Round again in 1994–95 and lost to Swindon Town. The 1994 tie against Oxford United set the ground record, with 3,000 inside.

The league record is quieter. Marlow won Isthmian League Division One in 1988 and the Hellenic League Premier Division in 2013. In 2023–24 they finished second in the Isthmian League South Central Division and beat Leatherhead in the play-off final to reach the Southern League Premier Division South. Tom Soares, a midfielder who had played for Crystal Palace, Stoke City, Bury and AFC Wimbledon, joined them that season. Marlow finished bottom in 2024–25 and went back down to Division One Central.

Beaconsfield Town, Bracknell Town and Chalfont St Peter are the local rivals, and the last of those is the Buckinghamshire derby. Marlow's Cup record runs to 154 seasons of applications, with one gap.
