Melksham Town

The Oakfield Stadium sits on Eastern Way, shared with Melksham Rugby Club, a £7.3 million ground the football side moved into in January 2017 after nearly a century at The Conigre. It holds around 3,000, with roughly 350 of those seated, and the club still often refers to it by its sponsored name, the South West Interiors Stadium.

The move closed a long chapter rather than opening a stable one in name terms. Melksham Town formed in 1876 as plain Melksham Football Club, became Melksham & Avon United in 1920 when it shared a ground with the Avon Rubber company, reverted to Melksham within a few years, and only settled on Melksham Town in 1951.

The FA Cup has offered little beyond three visits to the Third Qualifying Round. The record attendance, 2,821 against Trowbridge Town in 1957, has stood since well before the ground itself changed.

The club runs as a company limited by guarantee, with Kate Stevenson as managing director, and depends on loan arrangements with professional academies — Swindon Town and Southampton among them — to bring younger players through rather than producing its own.
