The Estádio Municipal José Bento Pessoa holds 9,000 people.
The original club, Associação Naval 1º de Maio, was founded on 1 May 1893. It reached the Primeira Liga in 2005 and stayed until 2011. Its best finish, eighth, came in 2009–10. Though many arrived from other clubs or on loan, before that, in 2002–03, it had reached the semi-finals of the Segunda Liga.
By 2017 the money had run out. Financial difficulties and legal problems led to the dissolution of the original club and the suspension of its football. In August of that year former directors set up Associação Naval 1893 to carry on its traditions. The new club began in the district leagues.
Its colours are blue and white, taken from the Portuguese monarchy's flag. After the Republic was proclaimed in 1910 the club briefly wore green and white, then went back to blue and white.
The local rival is GD Cova-Gala, and the meetings between them are called the Derby Figueirense.
The club known as the Navalistas has 1893 in its name.
