Niendorfer TSV 1919

Daniel Brückner played Bundesliga football for SC Paderborn and Greuther Fürth, and since 2018 he has been at Niendorfer TSV 1919, a Hamburg club whose first team plays in the fifth tier. In May 2018 the side lost the Hamburger Pokal final 2–0 to TuS Dassendorf at Hoheluft. It was their first final in almost a hundred years, and winning it would have sent them into the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) for the first time.

Niendorf's reputation was built lower down the age groups. The Hamburg Football Association ranks them with Hamburger SV and St. Pauli among the city's three most successful youth clubs, and in 2015 they were voted the best in Hamburg for youth training. The A-Youth side spent 2017 to 2020 in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga, and the B-Youth side had a season in the B-Junioren-Bundesliga in 2016/17. About 1,000 players turn out across nearly 50 football teams, inside a club of more than 8,200 members.

The first team has moved between the Oberliga Hamburg and the Landesliga. In the Oberliga they meet FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen, and the game is billed as Niendorf against Ottensen, though it has no name of its own. The U23 side beat Concordia 2 to win the Holstenpokal for reserve teams in 2019.

Other names come from outside football. Inge Bödding was a Niendorf member until 1969 and won 400m bronze at the 1972 Munich Olympics. The athletics community she later ran for, LG Nord-West Hamburg, was formed in 1969 from the athletics sections of Niendorfer TSV, SV Lurup, SC Victoria and Eimsbütteler TV. Viewers who never watched an Oberliga match know Paul Janke better. He played for Niendorf in 2011 and 2012, the year he was the protagonist of Der Bachelor.
