Nordlingen

The Bezirksoberliga Schwaben was won in 1992 and again in 2001, and the Swabian cup went to the town three times: in 1981, 1989 and 2007. The 1974 title in the Bezirksliga Schwaben-Nord had come earlier, in a lower division. The club now plays in the Bayernliga Nord, the fifth tier of German football.

Gerd Müller played for the club from 1958 to 1964, then moved to Bayern Munich. Nördlingen renamed their ground after him in 2008, the year after that last cup win. The Gerd-Müller-Stadion sits in the Rieser Sportpark and holds 9,000, though some sources put the figure at 10,000.

In 1938 it merged with VfR Nördlingen, and the result was the multi-sport TSV 1861 Nördlingen that exists today. Its football side is known as die Rieser , the Riesers, after the Ries, the basin that gives the Donau-Ries district its name.

The youth section has kept winning as well. The under-19 side took the Bavarian Football Association's regional cup for Swabia in 2018 and again in 2019.
