Normannia Gmünd are back in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, after winning promotion in 2022/23. It had already dropped out once before, in 2011/12. Their neighbours from TSV Essingen are in the same league, so the Ostalb-Derby is a league fixture again.

The high point came in 2007, when Normannia won the Württemberg state cup.

The club's origins are in mergers. It was formed on 29 July 1904 when Alemannia Schwäbisch Gmünd and Fortuna Schwäbisch Gmünd combined, and the name Normannia came out of that union. In August 1934, under Nazi pressure, it absorbed 1. Sportverein Gmünd 1895 and Veloziped-Club Gmünd 1888. It kept the name 1. FC Normannia Schwäbisch Gmünd.

The youth side has produced Samuele Di Benedetto, who came through between 2012 and 2016 and later played in the Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart.

Home is the Jahnstadion on Jahnstraße, now branded the tectomove Arena.
