Nsingizini Hotspurs

Nsingizini Hotspurs went into the 2025–26 season having already broken through once. Under head coach Mandla Qhogi, formerly of the Orlando Pirates development set-up, the club beat Green Mamba 1-0 in the Ingwenyama Cup final and then did it again in the Trade Fair Cup.

The league crown itself had come as the bigger surprise a year earlier, in 2024–25, won under interim charge of Simon Ngomane by a club that had spent its first years playing in local stokvel tournaments around Nhlangano rather than in any national competition. Founded in 1984 by the Nsingizini community for exactly that grassroots purpose, the club took its nickname, Insingizi Yezulu, from the southern ground-hornbill.

That first league title sent them into the CAF Confederation Cup, where Stellenbosch FC ended the run in qualifying, winning 3-0 in Nhlangano and 5-0 away. A step up to the CAF Champions League the following season went little better: Simba S.C. beat them 3-0 at home before a goalless draw closed it out. Domestically, though, the depth showed. Senzo Ndlovu, a South African striker signed from AmaZulu, took the Golden Boot in 2025–26, while Nkosingphile "Skomota" Shongwe was named Player of the Season and goalkeeper Sibusiso Dlamini took the matching award between the posts.

None of it matters more locally than the Shiselweni Derby against Rangers FC, the fixture that decides bragging rights in the region Nsingizini still calls home.
