Oostkamp

Jorn Vermeulen is the name most often attached to KSV Oostkamp: a player who came through a club of provincial football and went on to Club Brugge and the Belgian under-21 side. Oostkamp, in West Flanders, has spent most of its life several divisions below that level.

The club began in July 1956 as SV Oostkamp and took its red and white from the municipal coat of arms. It stayed at the Rustoorddreef ground until 1992, when it moved to De Valkaart. That ground is still the home of the club, known locally as KSVO. A new main stand was opened there in April 2022.

The best-known setback of the period came in 2005/06. EGC Gistel went bankrupt, the league had to be restructured, and Oostkamp went down from the First Provincial as a result.

The recent climb came in two steps. The 2019/20 season was suspended because of the pandemic and Oostkamp were declared First Provincial champions, which took them up into the amateur ranks. Two seasons later they won the Third Amateur Division (VFV A), the first title at that level. The new stand was inaugurated the same spring.

The nearest rival is KM Torhout, and the fixture between them is called the West Flemish derby.

Rik De Mil is among the former players still associated with the club. He kept goal for Oostkamp and later returned to football as a coach.
