Podkonice

Podkonice sits at the foot of the Low Tatras, and its football club began the way many village sides did in socialist Czechoslovakia — not from a benefactor but from a meeting of the local physical education unit. On 15 June 1959 the members of TJ Tatran Podkonice voted to enter a team into the fourth class of the Banská Bystrica district, and the first home fixture under that banner, a 3–3 draw with Selce "B" on 15 August 1959.

It never strayed far from that level until 2022, when a 1–0 playoff win over ŠK LR Crystal sent Podkonice up to the 3. Liga (West) — the third tier, and the highest the club has ever reached.

The squad that earned promotion was built around Matúš Turňa, who arrived in 2021 as player-captain after nearly 300 top-flight appearances for Dukla Banská Bystrica, Podbrezová, DAC and Spartak Trnava, where he won the Slovak Cup in 2018–19 — a level of experience unusual for a team drawn from a village of under 900 people. Local reporters have taken to calling the games against Dukla Banská Bystrica's B-team a "third-league derby", since geography ruled out anything involving the other, better-known Podkonice near Ružomberok.
