Preston Athletic

A single league title sits at the centre of Preston Athletic's story: the East of Scotland Football League First Division crown, won in 2001-02, remains the only outright league championship the Panners have to show for six decades in senior football. The seasons either side of it went the other way, with runner-up finishes in 1994-95 and again in 2011-12.

The 1994-95 campaign at least brought a trophy home, the Alex Jack Cup, even as the league title itself slipped away. More recently, a run to the final of the King Cup in 2017-18 ended the same way, with Preston Athletic finishing second.

Ambition took the club out of the East of Scotland League altogether in 2013, when Preston Athletic signed up as founding members of the newly formed Lowland Football League. The step up lasted four seasons before relegation sent them back down in 2017, to the level where most of the club's honours have actually been won.

Pennypit Park has been the constant through all of it, a ground with room for 1,500 spectators, 313 of them seated. The dark blue colours and the nickname, the Panners, both trace back to the same source: Prestonpans, the East Lothian town the club represents.

None of it would have happened without the decision taken in 1945 to form a junior club in the town, the level Scottish football reserves for its most local, community-rooted sides, and the level from which Preston Athletic eventually worked its way up.
