Prishtina Bern

Sportplatz Bodenweid sits in Bümpliz, a district on Bern's western edge. In September the ground hosted a Swiss Cup second-round tie against FC Sion, and 3,147 came through to watch it. Sion won 0–2.

FC Prishtina Bern was put together in 1990 by Albanian immigrants, many with roots in Kosovo, and it stands as the first Kosovar-Albanian football club in Switzerland. It became something closer to a meeting point for that community in Bern than just a place to play on Sundays.

The club nearly folded in 2015. A new board led by Mehid Topalli took over and steadied it, and what followed was a run up the pyramid: out of the 3. Liga and into the 2. Liga Interregional the same season, then, in 2023/24, up again into the 1. Liga Classic. Hansruedi Baumann was in charge for that last promotion, having taken the team from 2020.

Two players who came through the club's ranks went on to be known well beyond Bümpliz. Edon Zhegrova started here before moving through Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United; Enis Gavazaj also began at Prishtina. Ervin Gashi's connection ran deeper still — two spells as a player either side of a coaching stint that helped push the club toward its later promotions.

In the league system, the club's sharpest edge is its rivalry with FC Besa Biel/Bienne, the other Albanian-rooted club with a similar story in Swiss football. For now, Prishtina plays its football in the 1. Liga Classic, the level it fought three divisions to reach.
