Progresul Fundulea

Promotion out of Călărași County took Progresul Fundulea most of a decade to complete. Runners-up in Liga IV in 2010–11 and 2011–12, then again in 2021–22, the club finally won the county title in 2022–23 and confirmed it with a 4–1 aggregate win over LPS HD Clinceni, champions of Ilfov County, in the promotion play-off — the result that put Fundulea into Liga III for the first time.

The first season there went badly: ninth in Series III after both the regular phase and the play-out, a position that reads as relegation on paper. The club stayed up anyway, spared when other sides in the series withdrew. A change of coach followed. Costin Lazăr, capped for Romania as a player, took over for 2024–25 and brought in Bogdan Ștefan, Daniel Târțău and Robert Stănici; Fundulea finished fourth in the regular season and third in the play-off round.

Games against Dunărea Călărași, the county's established club, and against Venus Independența, thirteen-time county champions, carry more weight locally. Unirea Bascov has become a further rival through cup meetings.

Stadionul Progresul holds 500. The club took the 2021–22 Cupa României at county level the year before winning promotion, its other honour of note.

Costin Lazăr is the name attached to the club's best season in Liga III so far — not for what he won as a player for Romania, but for turning a side that had scraped survival on a technicality into one finishing third in its group a year later.
