Progresul Pecica

Pecica sits on the Mureș, a Arad County town. What is now ACS Progresul Pecica began in 1949, when Virtutea Pecica and Club Atletic Rovine merged into Steaua Roșie Pecica, and the name changed again and again after that — Recolta, then Progresul in 1965, then Aurul Negru in 1987.

The club's one brush with the national stage came under yet another identity. In 1992 Aurul Negru merged with Petrolul Arad to form West Petrom Pecica, backed by Petrom money, and that side won the Arad county round of the Cupa României before beating Mureșul Zădăreni 4–2 in the final on 23 June 1994. Five years later West Petrom hosted Steaua București in the Cupa României last 32 and lost 1–0 in front of an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 people. When the sponsorship was pulled in 2001, the club folded and had to start again from the amateur leagues as ACS Progresul Pecica.

It stayed there for the best part of two decades, winning the Liga IV Arad title in 2014–15 and again in 2018–19 before taking it once more in 2019–20 and finally going up to Liga III, where it has stayed through the 2025–26 season under manager Dan Stupar. Stadionul Progresul, once known as Stadionul Petrom, now holds about 2,000 in the club's yellow and blue.

Locally the club is still Pecicanii, or Petroliștii from its oil-money years, and its games against Gloria Cermei, Unirea Sântana and Viitorul Arad carry the weight of a derby arădean — a county rivalry.
