Roda

Parkstad Limburg Stadion sits close to the German border, a bowl for 19,979 that replaced Sportpark Kaalheide when it opened on 15 August 2000. Nothing in the record suggests it has been rebuilt or expanded since.

Roda JC Kerkrade formed on 27 June 1962, when Rapid JC and Roda Sport merged after Rapid JC dropped out of the Eredivisie the season before. Both predecessors were themselves the product of earlier mergers among Kerkrade clubs going back to the 1910s and 1920s, and Rapid JC had once been champion of the Netherlands, a title that belongs to that older side rather than to Roda JC itself. In 2010 the municipality asked the club to add "Kerkrade" to its name in exchange for financial backing, and it did.

The yellow and black kit points back to the coalfields that once employed much of the city, and the nickname that stuck, De Koempels, is the Limburg dialect word for the miners themselves. The club's honours read shorter than its four lost cup finals: two KNVB Cups, won in 1996/97 against Heerenveen after extra time and again in 1999/2000 against NEC, plus a runner-up finish in the Eredivisie in 1994/95. Both cups came under Huub Stevens, who also took the club to that second-place league finish and returned briefly as an advisor in 2017.

Gène Hanssen played 354 league matches at the back between 1978 and 1993 and is still known simply as Mister Roda JC, though it was Ger Senden who ended up with the club record — 411 appearances between 1989 and 2008, and two cup winner's medals of his own. In the 2001/02 UEFA Cup, Roda knocked out Milan in the last 32, with Mark Luijpers scoring the goal that settled the tie.
