Salyut were dissolved in 2014 with debts of 60 million rubles. It was Spartak, then Kotlestroitel, then Salyut for two decades. Energomash followed briefly in 1991–1992. Later came corporate versions: Salyut-YUKOS from 1996, and Salyut-Energiya from 2000 to 2009. The plain name Salyut came back in 2010 and again with the revival.

The most productive stretch came under the Energiya name. In 2000 the side won the Chernozemye Cup, a regional amateur competition, and in 2001 finished second in the Central Zone of the Second Division. In 2005 they won that zone under Sergey Andreev and went up to the First Division.

The player the club measures itself against is Yuri Vasiliev , who scored 108 goals, more than anyone else in its history. Valery Masalitin, who later won the title with CSKA Moscow, also came through Belgorod.

The club's burgundy and white have also earned it the nicknames Griphons and Pyrotechnics, the second a play on the word salyut , "firework salute".
