SC Ell

Ell sits in western Luxembourg, close enough to the border that the club's fiercest matches are called the Westderbys — against US Folschette and, to a lesser degree, US Rambrouch. For a village that size, a football club is not a given, and this one has needed rebuilding more than once: founded in 1920, it came apart and was refounded under different names through the 1930s and 1940s before finally re-emerging as SC Ell in 1971, the identity it has kept since.

The men's side has stayed in the lower divisions. The women's team, formed in 2005, is where the club's cabinet actually filled up. It won the Luxembourg Women's Cup in 2012, beating Progrès Niederkorn on penalties, and followed it with the Dames Ligue 1 title in the 2013–14 season — the club's only national championship. Jill De Bruyn, a Luxembourg international forward, was part of that title-winning side and stayed with the club until 2021. An indoor title arrived in 2023, in the women's national five-a-side championship, evidence the squad has kept producing even after its title generation moved on.

Matches are played at Terrain Um Essig 2, a ground that holds 500. What SC Ell has not managed, in over half a century under its current name, is a men's honour to match the women's team's record.
