SC St. Tönis

Tönisvorst is apple country, and the name the locals gave their football team says so: the Apple Pickers. St. Tönis, the district the club calls home, had two sides for most of a century: SV St. Tönis, formed in 1911, and DJK Teutonia St. Tönis, formed in 1920 with roots reaching back to 1903. They merged on 1 July 2022 as SC St. Tönis 1911/20. The German Football Association (DFB) recognises 1920 as the founding year.

The merged club was built on a climb that began before the merger. In 2012 the Teutonia side was in the Kreisliga B, the eighth tier. By 2020 it had reached the Oberliga Niederrhein, the fifth. The colours are blue and yellow, which is why the club is also called the Blue-Yellows. Its nearest rival is SV Sonsbeck, and the two play what both sets of fans call the "Kleines C-Liga-Derby". Bekim Kastrati, a former professional player, is the coach, and Maximilian Pohlig is captain.

The 2025/26 season produced the club's biggest day. St. Tönis reached the Niederrheinpokal final in Duisburg and lost 1:4 to MSV Duisburg. The result still sent them into the DFB-Pokal for the first time, because the Niederrhein cup's losing finalist also qualifies.

The draw gave them Eintracht Frankfurt in the first round on 21 August 2026. The 3,000-capacity Jahn-Sport-Anlage was too small for the tie, so it moved to the Grotenburg-Stadion in Krefeld. Frankfurt led 10:0 at half-time and won 11:0.

For a district whose team once played in the eighth tier, the tie meant a bus ride to Krefeld and a stadium full of people who had come to see the Bundesliga side.
