Two mergers built the club before it settled on its present name. FC Bocholt.
Bocholt won the Oberliga Nordrhein twice, in 1980 and 1984, took the Lower Rhine Cup in 1983, and that same season reached the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal, where Bayern Munich beat them 2-1. Twice in that period the club went up to the 2. Bundesliga, in 1977-78 and again in 1980-81, and twice came back down.
Since then the club has settled into the lower reaches of German football, winning the Landesliga Niederrhein in 2014 and the Oberliga Niederrhein in 2022.
They play in black and white at the Stadion am Hünting, where the ground's full capacity of 16,500 is restricted to 3,576 for their own matches. Rot-Weiß Oberhausen remain the club's old rival.
