Schermbeck

A gymnastics group formed in Schermbeck in the summer of 1912, and by January of the following year the members had registered it as Schermbecker Turnverein. Football came later, folded into the wider sports club after a 1934 merger with Grün-Weiß Schermbeck created Turn- und Sportverein Schermbeck. The football side ran as one department within that body for decades, until disagreements in July 2020 pushed it to break away and re-form as its own entity, SV Schermbeck 2020, leaving the original club to carry on under its old name.

Norbert Elgert took the team up in 1994. The Landesliga Westfalen title followed in 2001, then the Verbandsliga Westfalen twice, in 2003 and 2007. Christian Erwig led the scoring charts in the Oberliga Westfalen between 2004 and 2006 before moving on to Schalke 04.

Matches are played at the Volksbank-Arena, laid with synthetic turf in 2004 and given its current name three years later.
