Sheffield

The ground in Dronfield, Derbyshire, holds 2,089 people, 250 of them seated, and it carries two names: the Home of Football Stadium and the Coach and Horses. Sheffield F.C. bought it in 2001. It was the first ground the club had ever owned. The club now sits in Derbyshire rather than in the city that gave it its name.

The club was founded on 24 October 1857 by Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest, and it stayed amateur after professionalism was legalised in 1885. It won the FA Amateur Cup in 1904, and it reached three FA Cup quarter-finals in the competition's early years: 1873–74, 1875–76 and 1877–78. Its 1873 tie with Shropshire Wanderers was settled by a coin toss, the only such instance in FA Cup history.

Recognition arrived late. FIFA awarded the club its Order of Merit in 2004, and the English Football Hall of Fame inducted it in 2007. The 150th-anniversary celebrations that year were attended by Pelé, Bobby Charlton and Sepp Blatter, with exhibition matches against Inter Milan and Ajax.

The club won the Yorkshire League Division Two in 1977 and the Northern Counties East League Division One in 1989 and 1991. It was relegated from the Northern Premier League in 2025. In 2026 Jon McClure, lead singer of Reverend and the Makers, became chairman.

The local derby is the Rules Derby against Hallam F.C., the oldest fixture of its kind in the world. Hallam were founded in 1860, three years after Sheffield.
