It is the only derby the club has, and it arrived late.
What existed was Shenyang Zhongze, and when that club dissolved its players were left without contracts. Zhuang Yi, a former professional himself, took them and registered a new side in June of that year. In 2018, at 44, he scored in a competitive match and became the oldest man to have done so in Chinese professional football.
The name changed four times. Shenyang City, then Shenyang Urban, then Liaoning Shenyang Urban, and in February 2024 Liaoning Tieren, chosen by public vote. Tieren means iron men.
Promotion from China League Two came in 2019. Under Li Jinyu the club won China League One in 2025 and will play in the Chinese Super League for the first time in 2026. Guy Mbenza scored 28 goals that season, a single-season record for the division.
The ground is in Tiexi, the same district the name came from. For years the club moved between the Shenyang Olympic Sports Centre and a university stadium holding 12,000.
