Štadión pod Zoborom in Nitra holds 7,246 people since a 2018 rebuild, and it is where Slovakia's under-21 side plays its football.
The team came out of the split of Czechoslovakia, taking shape in 1993 with Milan Lešický as its first coach. Its opening match, in September 1994 at Myjava, ended in a 3–0 defeat to France. Against the Czech Republic U21 the fixture still carries the old weight of that separation — players on both sides call it the Federal derby, or the Brother derby.
Everything since has been measured against 2000. Slovakia hosted that year's UEFA European Under-21 Championship and reached the semi-finals, beating Turkey and England in the group stage and drawing with Italy before Spain ended the run twice over — first in the semi-final, then again in the third-place match. Fourth place sent the squad to the Sydney Olympics. Vratislav Greško, Marián Čišovský and Peter Babnič were among those who carried that team through the tournament.
Later sides reached the last 16 of the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship and got no further than the group stage at the 2017 and 2025 European Under-21 Championships, the second of those played on home soil again. The age-group side has long doubled as a proving ground for the senior team: Stanislav Lobotka and Miroslav Stoch both wore the U21 shirt before graduating upward.
