Sokół Aleksandrów Łódzki

Before Sokół took the field, the club that carried Aleksandrów Łódzki's football hopes was Włókniarz, tracing back to 1949 under the name Zryw and later reshaped by a 1958 merger. Włókniarz folded in 1995, and the club took the name Sokół and, until August 2008, playing as Sokół Syguła after Stanisław Syguła, the local businessman who ran the club and returned as its main backer in 2019.

The green and white colours came with the new identity, and so did a debt to the old one: the ground now bears the name of Włodzimierz Smolarek, the two-time World Cup forward who came through Włókniarz's ranks before Sokół existed. Home games are still played there, at a stadium holding just over 2,000.

Sokół's best spell came in the late 2000s, when the club reached the II Liga for the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons, finishing 11th in the Eastern Group in its first year at that level. Cup football brought its own moments too: two runs to the last 32 of the Puchar Polski, in 2006/07 and 2008/09, and a Łódź regional cup won in 2011/12. The years since have pulled the other way — a drop to the fourth tier in 2022/23, then another relegation in 2024/25.

Locally, the fixture that matters most is against Boruta Zgierz, billed as the Derby Powiatu Zgierskiego, though Sokół's meetings with the bigger Łódź clubs, Widzew and ŁKS, attract attention without carrying derby status. Through the club's various tiers and two relegations in three seasons, the stadium named after Smolarek has kept its 2,086 seats.
