In 2004 the Solomon Islands stood on a Fijian pitch level with Australia at 2-2 in the group stage of the OFC Nations Cup. The team, run by the Solomon Islands Football Federation and known to their own supporters as the Bonitos, finished runners-up in that same competition weeks later.
The federation formed in 1979, a year after the national side is generally reckoned to have come into being, and joined FIFA in 1988. Home games moved to the National Stadium in Honiara, a ground holding 10,000. The team wears green, gold and blue, and its highest FIFA ranking, 120th, came in October 2007.
The Solomons have won the MSG Prime Minister's Cup twice, in 1994 and again in 2023, and at the Pacific Games they have taken the silver medal six times without ever winning gold, most recently in 2023.
No one has worn the shirt more than Henry Fa'arodo, capped 64 times between 2002 and 2017.
