Songo

The pitch at Estádio da HCB sits close to the dam works. Songo plays there because the club itself grew out of the Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa company, which set up the team in 1982. That is also where the nickname comes from: Os Eléctricos, the Electricians.

Little in the town of Songo, tucked into the Cahora-Bassa district of Tete Province, would suggest a club with this record. Four Moçambola titles, taken in 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2025, and two Mozambican Cups, in 2016 and 2019, with the league and cup won together in three separate seasons. No club from Tete has matched that run, and none of Songo's declared rivals — Black Bulls, Costa do Sol, or the more local Chingale de Tete — has broken it up for long.

Hélder Pelembe has carried the navy blue and sky blue stripes into more than a hundred caps for Mozambique.

A run into the CAF Confederation Cup showed the limits that come with the size of the town and the ground, matches played far from home comforts. At home, though, Songo remain the team to catch in Mozambique.
