Stamford

The best years came in a run few clubs of this size get twice. Between 1975 and 1982, Stamford took the United Counties League Premier Division five times, then returned for two more titles in 1996 and 1997 before the decade closed.

Everything since has come in smaller doses but has not stopped. Promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division arrived for the first time in 2013, earned through the play-offs after wins over Belper Town and Chasetown, and the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands title in 2023 sent them back up the same ladder. In between, in October 2016, they drew Wrexham in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round, lost the first game, then beat the National League side 3–2 in the replay — enough to put Stamford into the First Round Proper for the first time before Hartlepool United ended it 3–0.

Jon Challinor's name runs through most of this: over 349 appearances before he moved into coaching alongside playing.

They are known as The Daniels, after Daniel Lambert, once the heaviest man recorded in England, who died in the town in 1809 and is buried at St Martin's Church. Founded in 1896, the club spent close to 120 years at Hanson's Field on Wothorpe Road before leaving for the Zeeco Stadium in December 2014, a ground with room for 2,000 and 250 of those under cover in the main stand.
