Stará Ľubovňa

A works team, a screw factory and a highland people: it began as ŠK Stará Ľovňa in 1923. After the war it became DŠO Slavoj, and under communism it belonged to the Skrutkáreň plant, the town's screw works. In 1999 a construction firm put its name on the shirts as FK Rekostav. From 2007 to 2012 it was MFK Goral, after the Gorals of the region.

The Goral years produced the best football the town has seen. The side won the 3. Liga (Eastern) and the Eastern Slovak Cup in 2005/06, then the 2. Liga a year later. That earned a place in the First Division for 2007/08, where they finished 12th and went down. The Slovak Cup run of 2006/07 is remembered for the third round, reached after they knocked out top-flight MFK Ružomberok.

Then came a long stretch in the lower divisions. The recovery began in 2021/22 with a win in the 4. Liga (Northern), followed by the 4. Liga (Eastern) the next year. In 2023, when the club became Stará Ľubovňa Redfox FC, it took its nickname from Sigismund of Luxembourg. In the 15th century Sigismund owned the castle above the town and was known as the Red Fox. Erik Jendrišek, a former Slovak international, played for them in 2023/24, the season they finished second in the 3. Liga (Eastern) and returned to the 2. Liga.

Staying there proved harder. They finished 16th in 2024/25, and by late 2025 players were reported unpaid. In 2024 the club had announced a new stadium of more than 3,500 seats to replace the ground at Továrenská 1, built in 1962, with 800 of its 2,500 places seated. The relegation of 2026 came before the new ground, due in 2026, was built.
