Sutton Athletic

The London Hire Stadium on Lower Road in Hextable holds 1,000, and the biggest crowd Sutton Athletic have put into it, a little over 500, came for the play-off final against Larkfield & New Hythe in 2022. Sutton won that game and with it promotion to the Premier Division of the Southern Counties East Football League, Step 5 of the non-league pyramid. The ground is shared with FC Elmstead.

The club dates from 1898 and takes its name from the nearby village of Sutton-at-Hone. Its most productive stretch came long before the play-off final. Between 1952–53 and 1964–65 Sutton won 11 Dartford League titles, and the Dartford League Cup was won seven times over roughly the same years. The Erith Hospital Charity Cup has gone to Hextable 11 times. In the Kent County League West the club climbed division by division, winning Division Two in 1968–69, Division One in 1969–70 and the Premier Division in 1970–71, then the Senior Division in 1976–77. The Kent Senior Trophy followed in 1974–75.

The FA Cup came late. Sutton first entered it in 2019/20 and beat Ashford Town 6-0.

Mike Mills has made more than 300 appearances for the club and was given a testimonial in 2023. The chairman, Deren Ibrahim, played for Dartford and won caps for Gibraltar. Under him the youth academy has grown considerably, and the players it produces are meant to keep Sutton in the Premier Division after the 2022 promotion.
