The Belval Belvaux

FC The Belval Belvaux took its first name from the café where its founders met in July 1908, merged six years later with The Sportsmen-Club 1910 Belvaux, and settled on its present name in 1960. During the German occupation, when the authorities stripped French references from local life, it played under the name FV Bieles until 1944 brought back Belval.

The one cup silverware came later and lower down the ladder, in 2011–12, when a 1–0 win over Etoile Sportive Clemency brought the Coupe FNL home; decades earlier, in 1921–22, the club had gone further and lost a Coupe du Luxembourg final to Jeunesse Esch.

The ground the club has played on since 1939 was reclaimed from what had been a lake filled with industrial debris. Among those who wore the shirt, Moussa Maâzou stands out simply for having gone on to Monaco and CSKA Moscow after leaving a club of this size.

The rivalry that still matters locally is with Union 05 Kayl-Tétange.
