Two villages either side of Contern combined their football teams in 1937, and for the club's first years there was hardly anything to combine into: between 1937/38 and 1948/49 USM did not take part in official league football at all. The occupying German administration renamed it Schwarz-Rot 37 Mutfort in 1940; the original name returned on 27 November 1945.

The club's best spell came in the 1960s, when USM was a fixture near the top of the second division without quite getting over the line — runner-up finishes in 1962/63, 1963/64 and 1966/67 among them. The 1966/67 season stands out on its own terms: 103 goals scored in 20 games.

Home games are played in front of around 300 seats at the Stade "Am Brill". The fiercest fixture on the calendar is against FC Red Black Pfaffenthal, known locally as the Gipfeltreffen — the summit match.

For all the goals of that mid-1960s side and the run of lower-division titles since, USM has never reached the National Division and has never won the Luxembourg Cup.
